Application Letter

Dear Admission Committee at the UIC for international students:

My name is Anna Ruiz, I am currently seventeen years old and I am from Bogotá, Colombia. At the moment, I am studying my third year in high school and I am looking for opportunities to study abroad. I had the privilege of studying first and second in Charlotte, North Carolina in the United States, which gave me a stronger foundation for the English language. Since the second year in high education, I have been learning French in my school. The purpose of my school is that we graduate with a level of A2 for this language, despite this, my current level is A1. Out from the academic, I have been interested on the how and why certain people act in certain way. My social skills have given me a function of understanding people’s mind better. This is why I am interested on studying a degree on psychology at your University.

In 2015, I visited Spain for the first time. More specifically, I visited Madrid and Barcelona. Eventually, I fell in love with Barcelona in all of its ways. I was surprised at how the Spaniards have everything extremely organized. From my point of view, mobility in Barcelona was efficient and easy, which I consider important for the life of a college student. Infrastructurally, I consider it one of the most interesting countries, due to its construction and emblematic structures, such as the «Sagrada Familia, Las Ramblas, Casa Batllo», to name a few located in Barcelona.

I have some reasons why I would like to be an international student. From my point of view, in a globalized world like nowadays, the fact of obtaining this type of experiences and education can give me greater opportunities for the near future, specially for the field in psychology in which it is important to adquiere abilities of human behavior from all over the world. Acquiring languages can become a plus in being an international student. I understand that Barcelona is the capital of the region of Catalonia, because of this, Catalan is an additional language that could obtain for my life and my international experience as a student in Barcelona. Experiencing different cultures while also been a student can become a challenge, however, it may become gratifying and enriching for me as a person, who is on constant evolution and on the search of meeting new people. Been an international student is a key factor of becoming more independent which can give me the opportunity to have a better and organized life.

For me it would be an amazing possibility to have the chance of studying in a hospital environment and within a multidisciplinary university environment, like your University does for the degree in psychology. The Academic Ranking of World Universities has ranked you as one of the five best private institutions in Spain. As a consequence of your outstanding position, I recognize your program for International Student, is quite wide for anyone in the world. The University offers international students an own system of access to its centers and degrees, besides than allowing them strengthen their Spanish and Catalan while also coursing their corresponding degree.

Throughout my school life, I have had the opportunity to belong to the soccer and volleyball team. This participations has given me the skills of commitment and responsibility in teamwork. In terms of leadership, during my seventh grade I belonged to my schools student council, in which I learned how to cooperate and learn from different people. It also gave the responsibility to take awareness of other people’s needs, in this case, my grades necessities. In order to graduate, it is mandatory to provide social services to the ones in need, it’s a policy of my school. I have been recognized as an outstanding friend through the school’s acknowledgments of my experiences of values and virtues, by being able to have proper relationships with everybody.

I appreciate your time and hope I can be considered as an international student for you University. I am looking forward from hearing back from you!

Regards,

Anna Ruiz Estrada
